Revolution Software LTD
by: Isak

Well, without Revolution Software we would not have Broken Sword. The game developer from York, England have allways created top adventure games. And does never disapoint anyone.

Their first game, Lure of The Temptress, a point 'n' click adventure, (released in 1991) takes place in a fantasy world. You are the hero who must stop the evil and save the princess. This started Revolutions "Virutal Theatre engine" (VT). VT allowed in-game characters to wander around the gameworld indepently of each other, living their own lives and doing their own thing.

Released for: Pc, Amiga and ST.

Now there was time for their second game, Beneath a Steel Sky and now in a whole new genre of adventure game. Yes, it was still adventure, but Beneath a Steel Sky (or BASS) was set in a future city, and was built on a comic book by Dave Gibbons. The release of the game was in 1994. This time you took the role as Robert Foster, a prisoner who must escape from this future city.

Released for: Pc and Amiga.

Then Revolution created the best adventuregames in the world, Broken Sword - The Shadow of the Templars and Broken Sword II - The Smoking Mirror. But you'll find more info about these games elswhere on this site.

After the high success with Broken Sword and Broken Sword II, Revolution took the big step into the 3D world. Their first 3D game, In Cold Blood was set in a not so distant future and you took the role as John Cord. John who was prisoned had to tell what he had done as an agent, under torture. The only problem is that he can't remember anything. So you play in Johns memory. But for the first time, Revolution skipped the classical point 'n' click interface, and they did a stealth game (and you could even use weapons!) controlled with your joypad

Released for: Playstation and Pc.
Where to get it: Ebay

Just after In Cold Blood was released Revolution made a (quite rare) collectors game box. This box contained Lure of the Temptress, Beneath a Steel Sky, Broken Sword and Broken Sword II.

After In Cold Blood, Revolution kept on with 3D. And their first (and only) movie license game was created. Gold and Glory: The Road to El Dorado, the child movie by Dreamworks, was created by Revolution. The game had the same engine as In Cold Blood but without weapons. The story about Miguel and Tulio who searched for the golden city, El Dorado, was just as great as a game as it was as a movie.

After Gold and Glory: The road to el dorado, Revolution started to develop a game on the commison of Sony, "Good Cop, Bad Cop" for their next gen consoles (in this case Playstation 2), but for some reason, the project was cut.

In May 2004, Revolution had to cut down on personal. Important people such as Steve Ince (producer of Broken Sword 3, El Dorado and In Cold Blood) and Ben McCullough (music Broken Sword 3) unfortanly had to go.

As you probably know, Revolution are working with the help of Sumo Digital on Broken Sword 4 - The Angel of Death. After that, no one really knows what will happen to Revolution... However Tony Warriner, CO-Founder has mentioned that BAss 2 might be made if the "indie model" (you develop a game and then let people download it for a less amount of money than they had to do if they bought it in a store... Some examples would be "Bone" and "Mr. Smoozles goes nutso") will be popular.
